When I was a kid, I did the usual school thing with exchanging Valentine cards in class. I thought it was pretty silly really. Some kids made a big deal out of it. Personally, I thought it was really just a waste of good paper.
When I got older, I never particularly paid much attention to Valentine's day. I've spent most of my life as a single person so I just ignored it.. Yet I had some friends who knew since high school that they were meant for each other and have spent their lives together. I was fascinated by their relationship and devotion to each other.
I decided to look again at Valentine's and see if I could find what I would like if I were to be looking for cards or gifts. Since I'm a confirmed dog owner and dog lover, it's no surprise that I found dogs to be my symbol of love and devotion. The quotes I found said better than I ever could about what I think true love really is.
Big Girl Valentines for Dog Lovers
by Ragtimelil
I've never been a "girly" girl. I never cared much for pink, hearts or bows. I created some Valentine cards and gifts for the big girl who loves dogs.
Life Has Taught Us
I've had several relationships in my life. Many of my friends have divorced or separated. I've always been inspired by my friends who knew without a doubt that they were meant for each other. It has always been a privilege and an inspiration to be around them.
All the ones I knew were also dog lovers. There must be a message there.
I retouched the photo of these two dogs gazing into the woods together to give it a more romantic feel. The message inside and on the shirt says
"Life has taught us that love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking outward together, in the same direction."
Where There is Love
There are few things that I love more that watching dogs play. These two shepherds are the epitome of life and love. While they might not be expressing tender emotions at this moment, they are sharing life and love. I used them to illustrate a quote by Mahatma Gandhi,
"Where there is love,
there is life."
Pink Car and White Dog
This is my few designs with pink. I couldn't resist the pink interior of this car with the little white dog waiting for a ride. Maybe I like pink better the older I get. I did have a little white dog years ago.
This is a customizable card. When you go to the page, it has a box for you to add your own message. I think you know what to say.
Love More
This is a vintage illustration of a girl hugging her dog. What better way to express affection that by a hug. A pink tee shirt makes a gift that will remind her all year 'round that you love her.
As Thoreau said,
"There is no remedy for love but to love more."
Falling in Love
It's not just dogs that can express affection. Cats are affectionate and loving animals too. This kitten happens to be showing affection for a little dog.
I just loved this quote by an unknown author. I think it expresses what true love really is. It's not immobile like a rock, but constantly renewed, like a stream.
"I've fallen in love many times...
always with you."
These are just some of the products I've created on Zazzle dedicated to this holiday. If you have more ideas or want something special, feel free to send me a message. I always love hearing from readers.
