Lorraine Jordan is a Celtic singer-songwriter
I first met Lorraine Jordan many years ago at the Heresy Folk Club in Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff where I used to perform. I was very impressed with her singing and songs and we became friends.
Lorraine was born in Wales and has Irish parents making her a real Celtic folk musician but one who is writing her own original material.
Suddenly though she moved away from Cardiff and I lost touch until many years later when I saw a review of her cassette album Inspiration in TAPLAS, a Cardiff folk magazine, and there was a contact address. I wrote off straight away to get a copy of her album.
That was how I got back in contact with Lorraine, who in my opinion is a truly gifted singer-songwriter, who writes the most beautiful songs and sings them with a heartfelt warmth to her vocals and simple acoustic arrangements that work so perfectly.
Inspiration as cassette was played over and over and over again and I think my favourite song is So Much Love with the lyrics: "I've got so much love that I want to show you, And if you just hold on your dreams will come true."

Lorraine was living in Scotland and we exchanged letters from then on. We both had sites on the old mp3.com too.
As the years went by Lorraine was able to release her music via MusicScotland and Klub Records and had three CD albums out including a re-issue of Inspiration mastered for CD. Of course, I had to have them all and like the cassette all three have been played and replayed.
The other albums are Crazy Guessing Games that came out in 1994 on Klub Records and This Big Feeling on Unforgettable Music in 2000. On this last album besides 10 original songs Lorraine also sings and plays two traditional folk songs - Lord Randal and I Once Loved a Lass.
Lorraine's songs are about love and the search for it, about emotions, about the quest for freedom and about people. Her choice of words is often simple but at the same time very powerful. Lorraine's songs speak to the human heart.

She has had a vast amount of critical acclaim in the music press and media and gathered a growing legion of fans worldwide, and she has toured playing in many different countries including America and Australia as well as much of Europe.
Lorraine has performed and recorded both as a solo act backing her songs on guitar and bouzouki as well as with other musicians. In 2004 she was one of five women singers and musicians from the UK and New Zealand who collaborated on From Celtic Roots to Oceanic Soul on Planet Woman Music.

Support for Richard Thompson
In recent years Lorraine has moved to London and has a new album out entitled A Light Over There. My pick of 11 excellent songs is Danni, which you can hear on Lorraine's Myspace site.
Lorraine has also played alongside some very big names in folk music today including Richard Thompson, Loudon Wainright III, Alan Stivell and Dick Gaughan. To my mind she has songs equally as good as any of them and deserves to be much better known than she is so I'm hoping this hub will find Lorraine some new fans.
