Digital Baby Monitor – Spend A Little Or Spend A Lot?

by Tested_to_Destruction

The jury is out when it comes to buying a digital baby monitor ... regarding whether you spend a little or a lot. Do you get what you pay for?

A baby monitor is a great piece of equipment, perfectly designed to offer peace of mind however there are so many on the market, it's tough deciding on which one's best.

Are digital baby monitors worth the extra cost, are they better than their cheaper rivals? An overview of one of the best models currently available.

So Many To Choose From?

Baby monitors tend to come recommended - be that through friends and family, or health professionals. And, hopefully, the one that's recommended will match the family budget.

It’s hardly practical to say to mom ‘ohhhh of course you should spend $200, it’s the best that money can buy!’, if her finances would be stretched at parting with $60.

So try and use common sense and look at what’s available, what’s the most suitable, what ticks all the right boxes.

The current favorite one of the best selling digital models, and it's one that we happily recommend. It's the Angelcare Baby Sound Monitor in White and it comes in under the 60 dollar mark, so not only is it affordable, it out-performs some of the more expensive models.

You get one parent unit, the nursery unit, a pair of adapters and the charging socket. It’s compact, well made and robust, and the digital read-out is nice and clear. And did you notice the discounted price tag ...

The Good Bits

What's to like:

  • The read out gives the room temperature and the base unit also acts as a night light
  • Transmission wise, it’s pretty good for the main, clear, free of static and very responsive
  • The range is excellent, and there’s a small variety of different channels, and the receiver works with rechargeable batteries

Basically you get a lot (technology, build quality etc), despite paying anything but.

The Bad Bits

What we don’t like:

  • There’s only one receiver
  • The clip of the parent unit isn’t anything to write home about, though it works ok

Overall, it’s got more going for it than it hasn’t, and for that reason we believe it’s one of the best digital baby monitors on the market. This is in relation to the price tag, the quality of the product and the features it contains.

If you’re wanting to spend under 100 dollars, it’s a great choice, and well worth considering. It’s also a good choice for those looking to buy a baby shower gift, or a gift for a new mom and baby that may have been overlooked when they were putting together their new-baby must-have list.
