Educational Games - Children Under 12 - 18 Months

by Tested_to_Destruction

Educational games for babies are meant to entertain and guide their learning at the same time, but it's also a little tough deciding on which ones are the best choice.

So many toys on the market claim to be educational; as parents, you need to take note that children around 12 months to 18 months of age need toys that stimulate their developing senses and skills.

A developmental toy should be colorful to attract their eyes, musical to engage their ability to hear and be textured to satisfy their need to touch and feel. Not least, kids at this age start to stand and walk, and so the best toys will motivate them to walk and roam around the house.

LeapFrog Learn & Groove™ Musical Table

The Leap Frog table is one of the most stimulating toys out there. It motivates the developing toddler to move, to crawl, and to sit within the table. With the removable legs attached, it also stands sturdily enough for baby to lean on when she is standing up. The table has a lot of features, most notably the music-producing buttons that play songs, rhymes and tunes, all of which will delight a child under tow years of age.

Even when they have outgrown it, older kids (including children about 3 to 5 years old) will be amused by it. Don't be surprised to find your baby dancing along with it. The whole family or playgroup may decide to join in the fun!

LeapFrog Learn & Groove Alphabet Drum by LeapFrog

Just about everyone will love to play with this toy; even adults will be fascinated with it. With every tap of the drum, a new letter appears for your baby, along with lights and music. The various learning modes include music play, dance along, and alphabets.

Not only will this lay the groundwork for learning about speaking and reading, but it will also encourage large motor development as it encourages baby to crawl towards the toy, dance with it, and use his arms to tap the drums. And, as wonderful as this educational toy is, it's made even better by having a volume control!

Fisher-Price Corn Popper Push Toy

Pull and push toys are among the best toys for children through age 2, while they are developing the muscle strength, coordination, and balance needed for walking. When your child starts to stand up, consider the Corn Popper. The popping sound it makes when pushed will help motivate a toddler as they learn to walk and run. The faster the baby pushes, the faster the balls pop.

That sound that is so fascinating to a toddler will also help Mom or Dad keep track of Junior, as they'll know where he is and what he is getting into!  It's a basic looking educational toy for babies but it does provide them with excitement and of course the motivation to become more mobile and independent.
