Sookie's Engagement Ring from True Blood

Inspired by the actual ring worn by Anna Paquin in True Blood, this engagement ring will complete many a ComicCon cosplay.

It could possibly be used in a real life proposal too, as long as the recipient is a real Sookie Stackhouse fan, and bats for Team Bill.

Though it looks the part, it's not quite as expensive as the real thing. The band is gold-plated rather than pure gold. Though that still makes it 14k, with a futher 2 carats in the stone. The faux diamond is actually Cubic Zirconia. Nevertheless, we were all wide-eyed, when its twin was handed over a candlelit table in the show.

Rapt viewers watched this romantic moment play out at the end of True Blood season two. With so much trouble behind them, it appeared that Bill Compton and Sookie Stackhouse could finally relax. They hadn't had much chance for proper, ordinary dating. Bon Temps is more about high drama and supernatural beings than intimate meals with soft music playing.

So Bill pulled out all of the stops. He reached right into his Southern gentleman heart and did some old fashioned courting. But it was all leading somewhere. He'd found the woman of his dreams and he wasn't about to lose her to, say, some dodgy 1000 year old vampire from Fangtasia.

But this is True Blood and things rarely go to plan.

There are two ways of watching that scene. We could see Sookie wracked with indecision, struggling for the right thing to do. We could observe Bill laying on the charm, doing all in his power to make her want to say yes.

Or we could break down the fourth wall and watch the actors instead. This was pretty much a dress rehearsal for real life!

Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, who play Sookie and Bill, are now married in real life. In the picture here, Anna is heavily pregnant. But let's rewind from that and look at the proposal scene in True Blood again.

The couple met at the auditions for the show. They read together and the chemistry was real enough for them to get the parts. Really real.

As season one progressed, they began dating. By the time they were filming season two, things were quite serious. In character, Stephen asked Anna as Sookie to marry him. We all watched it happen. What we didn't get to see was what happened next. That was Stephen asking Anna to marry him in real life.

She apparently had none of Sookie's misgivings. While season three was airing, the couple married in a private ceremony in Malibu, California. Season six was delayed because Anna was giving birth to their twins!

That on-screen engagement ring may not boast of any magical powers, but it's brought luck to at least one man!  And Sookie did finally put it on her finger.
