Father's Day for Gamers
by gameaddict
Finding a gift for Father's Day for the gaming addict may sound like a tough task, but it doesn't have to be. This article will show you some of the best gaming gifts for Dad.
Pre-Order a Game
If you're Dad, husband, grandfather, etc. is not the "instant gratification" type, you could pre-order one of the hot new upcoming games for him and ensure he is one of the first ones to get his hands on said hot new upcoming game. Even games that are only a few weeks away are good options. Some of the most popular include Halo 4 (even though they said it wouldn't exist), Call of Duty: Black Ops II, The Secret World [my favorite!] and Resident Evil 6. Amazon has a special section in their video games section that says "Best of E3" which is a really good place to find the most popular upcoming games. However, even then there are games that may not be listed even though they are being released very shortly. You can do a Google search and type "upcoming video game releases" or "video games by release date" and that may give you a good idea of what's new and popular. You could also ask Dad what kind of games he has been looking at recently.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II | The Secret World | Guild Wars 2 |
GameFly Subscription
I have to admit, I cancelled my GameFly subscription (and several other expenses) because I needed extra money due to getting ready to buy a new house, but it's still a pretty good deal. Instead of buying games, you pay a subscription fee each month to rent them. You can keep them as long as you want, without having to worry about a late fee, and there is even an option to buy them. GameFly even has a store that has some discounted games and the longer you're a member, the more savings you get at the store. Also, Direct2Drive has merged with GameFly, making it the place to get your PC game downloads as well. If you can't figure out what else to get for Dad this Father's Day, a GameFly subscription is a pretty awesome treat. There are also other game subscription services around too. If Dad likes to play the games straight from the Internet, the VGame Network will allow him to play over a thousand different games over the Internet. There is a free trial if you want to try it out, but after 5 days, your credit card will be charged, so keep that in mind.
Video Game Accessories
Does Dad already have the newest, most popular games? Are there not any games out there that he likes right now? Well, a gift for the gaming dad doesn't always have to be a game. A gaming chair, headset, keyboard, or any other gaming accessory that he's been wanting can also be a great Father's Day gift. Some gaming chairs and keyboards can be quite expensive; however, there are some that are available that offer pretty good perks and cost less than $100. Also, keep in mind with gaming chairs, read the reviews first, because those under $50 typically have very low reviews and are smaller than they appear in the pictures. Check out some of the best one's below.

Game Cards
Does Dad love MMOs? Is his subscription coming due? Then maybe a game time card is the best gift for him this Father's Day. These game-time cards add a pre-set amount of time to Dad's favorite game (usually 30 or 60 days) instead of charging his credit card. Some of the most popular include World of Warcraft, Rift, Tera, and the Sony Online games (Everquest , Everquest 2, Free Realms, DC Universe Online, etc). Game Time cards can also give you some piece of mind about credit card security. Since you can use those to add game time instead of a credit card, there is no need to enter your credit card information into the gaming company's website. So, if the gaming company's records get compromised, your credit card information isn't on there, just an already-used game time code. So if you or Dad have been leery about playing World of Warcraft because you didn't want to put your credit card information on-line, a game time card may be the perfect solution. Check some of the most popular ones out in the Amazon section below.

The latest video games
Yes, this may seem like an obvious choice; however, you may not have a clue what those games are if you're not an avid gamer like Dad is. It's cool, that's what I'm here for. One of the most popular games released recently was Diablo 3. Not the RPG type or don't want to have to connect on-line to play? Max Payne 3 may be the perfect game for him. If you still can't find the right game for him, gift cards to a gaming store may be the perfect thing for Dad this year.

It's the thought that counts
Any gift for Dad this Father's Day is an awesome gift. If Dad is a gamer and you tailor the gift to gaming, you can't go wrong. However, if your Dad is like mine, then I'm sure he will be ecstatic with whatever you get him this Father's Day. June 17th is Father's Day in 2012 and that's coming up pretty fast. However, a lot of the items from Amazon can be shipped and received in plenty of time for Father's Day this year, especially if you have Amazon Prime (kind of costly, but still a decent service to have). Even if you all you can do this year is a do-it-yourself card, you can still get pretty creative with all of the options available in Word Processing programs these days and create a pretty awesome card. Also, you can find some pretty cool gaming posters at Allposters.com for a relatively decent price, so check out those if Dad's the poster type. So, Happy Father's Day all!
