Not everyone is comfortable with revealing their identity. Got it.
But isn't it a bit strange having conversations with AP345lma, ZazzleMeister87, Webknitter, oomgoo, GreatPostcards, or something?
For those of you who'd like to be called by their real name, here in the forum or elswhere, I'm starting this thread so we'll have you all in one place. It's easier to remember (look it up), too.
chefkeem = Achim Thiemermann.
Call me Achim, if you like.
Or Chef, or Keem - if you're used to it.
Whatchamacallya?
Achim "Chef Keem" Thiemermann is the co-founder of a pretty cool new platform called...um...er...oh, yeah - Wizzley.com.

Hi! Yes I like a conversation person - to - person... sometime I have to talk with a flower, a bird, a toy and so on... I think the Name and a Real Picture is important in a community.
I am Michey, I always use my current picture as avatar, now after I published my Wizzography ... no secret is left out... as I don't have secrets with you and I consider all of you my friends,
Regards
Michey

I'm totally comfortable to be called 'Katinka' or 'spirituality' online. In real life I prefer the first though and I've set up the wizzley footer (great idea btw) to include my real name.

I usually answer to Bev and sometimes Beverly (except that meant I was in trouble when I was a kid). Just don't call me "Late For Dinner" Mah Hah Hah!

You know what this thread does show is that when choosing a username, there's a lot more to it than you think.
In the past I used to see advice from the self-styles Gurus, that in order to gain authority in your niche, you should call yourself a name relevant to that niche. And yep, we saw things like "getrichquick" (well may be not quite so stupid as that, but you know what I mean) and even "cureyeastinfectionfast" - yuckity yuck.
I am so glad I did not listen to them
But, in a case like mine, where I have a very valid reason for not allowing my real name to be connected with some of what I write about, it just goes to show that the choice of your username is just soooo important so that people can think of you as a real person, even if you are not using your real name.

My real name is Orly2398 - kidding! ;D
I used to go by a user name in discussion groups then found people were quoting me on the Internet, and decided to brave using my own name. This occasionally causes problems, but - I'm out of the Internet closet...

You know AJ I've thought of you as AJ for a few years now, if you 'came out of the internet closet' I'd be terrible at remembering your 'real life' name - AJ suits you
It was a great choice for a username and I could so relate to it as, let's face it, moms especially are always juggling a thousand things at once.
