Find Missing Frosty Friends Hallmark Ornaments

by paperfacets

Hints on finding and displaying your Frosty Friend ornaments. Create a table top scenic winter playground.

Frosty Friends is Hallmark's longest running line of Christmas ornaments. Its signature character is a little Native American in a gray snowsuit, white fur surrounding a sweet face, and a cute button nose. The little figure always has an animal friend to share in icy cold fun. The duo sits on a translucent slice of clear plastic "ice".

In 2004 I decided to search for the few missing ornaments in my collection I started in 1983. The series started in 1980. Are you missing some Native American ornaments by Hallmark? Some search hints below.

What I Shopped For

The foremost online place to search for the ornaments is eBay. The bidding is fierce and many of the beginning prices do not allow for any bidding fun. There are ornaments for Buy Now, as well. I purchased 1985 without the box for a good price. I ended up buying the reproduced first issue, because I do not need an original.

I am missing number two and three and I will have my completed collection. Sadly, looking recently at a few online websites, I find that prices have gone out of my reach. The supply has become very limited. Five years ago there would be a dozen 1981 igloos for sale, today 2011, one could be found for $288 on ebay.

Of course, I look for the ornaments at every garage sale I stop at and the swap meets too. Never know if the owner is clueless to the demand of the early issued Friends.

After Thanksgiving 2011

I have a cute little green tree with white lights to hang the Eskimos on. For 2011 I have a new idea.

I have bought three sizes of the glass blocks that are used for window openings. I will get a handyman to drill a 1 1/2 or 2 inch hole in the side of each block. The idea is to put a short string of white lights into the inside of the glass block.

I now have bright lit up ice platforms to put the ornaments on. When it is set up on the sofa table I will post a picture. Have a Happy Holiday Season, everyone.

I also like the Crayola series and the Marilyn Monroe, but missing many years so I do not look actively for those. How about you? Are you crazy for a particular Hallmark series?

paperfacets, What are numbers two and three? The penguins and polar bear cubs are adorable! What are the Crayola and Marilyn Monroe collections?

I've never seen these Frosty Friends ornaments. They are adorable, and your display is quite a showcase for them.

Just a brief comment: People who live in the North don't call themselves Eskimos. That's considered a pejorative word spoken by outsiders. They are called "Inuit" in Canada. "Yupik" is the name for the northern people in Alaska and Siberia.
