Help Preserve American History - The Give 150 Campaign

by kab

The Civil War was a turning point in our country. Help save Civil War battle sites by donating $1.50 for the 150th anniversary of this important part of American history.

The American Civil War was a turning point in our country. It pitted brother against brother and effected the lives of every American of that time. It changed America and the way we now live. We need to remember and respect this part of our history.

We are losing about 1 acre of Civil War battlefield land every day. This is history that can never be reclaimed.

For the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, consider donating $1.50 to help protect Civil War battlefields throughout our country. History.com started the Give150 Campaign which contributes to money to the Civil War Trust, and The National Park Foundation. These organizations continually work to preserve history.

Reading About History Doesn't Compare to Seeing It

Reading about a battle is one thing.  It's informative and factual, but it does not even come close to standing on a portion of land and seeing what they saw.  Being able to see the trenches they hid in, being able to walk a hill as they did gives you an appreciation for the fight.  We must protect these places.

I understand that you are approached my many charities and very worthwhile causes, but I hope you will take the time to donate even this small amount of $1.50 to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War.  Show your respects to the soldiers who fought and changed our country by protecting the lands they died on.

Also, please tell your friends and family about this campaign.  Little donations add up to great things.  Put this page on facebook or twitter and maybe you can be the spark that made a difference.

Thanks.

History of every country determines its nation. American history is so important because if we, even if we are not Americans, know more about it, will be able to understand USA's actions in its foreign policy and will understand more about overall world situation.

The whole legacy of the US Civil War is important...

I just wrote the book about a unique US Army Post - "Images of America - Fort Myer" with origins during the US Civil War when it was known as Fort Whipple.

I agree that we have to preserve history and learn from it! It is a great idea.

Indeed it is so important that we preserve these battlefields for future generations. And $1.50 is not too much to ask of most people. I hope this effort will be a huge success!
