The Gandalf Arrives Lord of the Rings LEGO set is the smallest and cheapest set in the 2012 release of this theme and is most notable as the only one of the first seven sets to contain a mini figure of the wizard, Gandalf the Grey. Also contained are a Frodo Baggins mini figure as well as Gandalf's horse and cart.

The Gandalf Arrives scene is one of the first in the movie Fellowship of the Ring so it is fitting that it is one of the first Lord of the Rings LEGO sets. Fans will want to get hold of this set for the Gandalf the Grey mini figure to go with mini figures in other sets to complete the fellowship.

This is the smallest and least expensive of the first seven Lord of the Rings LEGO sets and whilst it is a nice gift, there are no other Shire LEGO sets for it to fit in with. Perhaps these will appear in subsequent releases.

What's Cool

• Gandalf the Grey is exclusive to this set on its release in 2012. This minifigure is the coolest thing about this set.

• Gandalf has a cool, long, grey beard piece.

• Subtle body printing breaks up the grey without taking away from the overall color scheme.

• The Gandalf mini figure comes armed with his magic staff.

• Grey cape and hat completes Gandalf's look.

What's Not Cool

• Does not come with a sword so he cannot participate in battles with other Lord of the Rings LEGO sets.

Frodo Baggins

What's Cool

• Body printing and color scheme makes this Frodo look just like the Shire version of the character in the movie.

• New curly hobbit hair piece.

• Comes with book and backpack reflecting Frodo's days before becoming the ring bearer.

What's Not Cool

• No other Shire-folk for Frodo to interact with.

• Frodo has not yet received the ring from Bilbo.

As Bilbo prepares to celebrate his 111st birthday surrounded by his friends of the Shire, the wizard, Gandalf the Grey, arrives in his horse-drawn cart, loaded with wonderful fireworks and he is greeted by an unburdened Frodo Baggins. The biggest party the hobbits have ever seen is about to begin!

Gandalf's Horse & Cart

Gandalf's horse is one of the new LEGO horses which has poseable back legs as well as a movable head. His horse is brown with detailed printing on the head and face.

Gandalf's cart is a nicely built vehicle stocked with items that represent the collection of fireworks that the wizard brings to Bilbo's 111st birthday.

Most of the 83 pieces in this set go into building this cart which looks really nice and although there are no other Shire LEGO sets in the 2012 release, this vehicle can be used to help transport the provisions of the nine members of the Fellowship of the Ring.
