Why Should You Focus On Niche Marketing?

Niche Marketing is quite easy to define although it can be very confusing for those who are new to it!

A niche market is a distinct group of people who are interested in a particular subject, hobby, type of product and anything else where you can group people together because of their common interest or need.  When we are trying to find niches for our marketing efforts we need to really focus in on groups of people with common interests or needs.

When it comes to finding, what will hopefully be, a profitable niche we want to find a group of people which is large enough to generate some money from. However, we don't want it to be that large that everyone is trying to market to them.

You might think that "Dog Owners" is a niche. Then when when you recognise that there are hundreds of millions of dog owners it's not really a niche that we could easily market to!

So perhaps we can look at people who are looking for advice about "House Training a Dog" but even that is quite a substantial group of people!

So what about people who are looking for help with "House Training an Older Dog" is that a good niche market? 

Yes that looks much better because it is a smaller group of people and a much more targeted niche.

Just take a moment to think about the way you search online. I am guessing that when you arrive at your favorite search engine you probably type in a fairly specific keyword phrase.

You would not be on your own.  People are becoming much more familiar with searching on the internet and are thinking about how they search. Like you they probably rarely click on the results beyond the first page or at most the first three pages.

More people seem to be sticking with the first two or three results and not even looking at the other results or websites.  This is why niche marketing is becoming so important, because people are becoming more specific in their searches and websites are focusing more and more on answering their specific questions.

So if you choose a very broad topic like "Dog Training", it could well take you years to reach the first page of the search results and in all honesty, you may never reach it!

However, by choosing a targeted niche, you are probably going to find it much easier to reach the first page of results.
