A good quality paint remover should take the labor out of paint removal. Most of them come in a liquid or gel form but you can go out and purchase power paint removers if necessary - and type of power tool that uses abrasion or heat to remove paint.

There's a good variety of paint removal products available - most are pretty affordable and do a great job of cleaning up paint - and of course they always work better when partnered up with a good quality paint scraper tool.

The five best paint removers are featured below - they're all well rated, highly popular and unless they've got a motor in them - they're inexpensive and great value for money.

It will also work on a range of different surface areas - brick, wood, metal, stone and more, so you're all set if you stumble on some graffiti down the side of a project you're working on. Citri-Strip QCG73801T Paint and Varnish Stripping Gel, 1-Quart

This paint remover has mixed reviews - pretty much related to the odor. To be fair - it isn't offensive, just a strong smell of citrus. Not that bad but not great if you can't stand the smell of oranges. Still - it's amazingly good at stripping varnish off wood.

Despite the smell it's a biodegradable paint removal liquid and it's not going to harm you or your environment. Being a gel it's a bit messy to work with but once you're on a roll you soon have what you need covered over and soaking. Left to do it's job, all you have to do is scrape the mess off and maybe do a bit of a follow round with some wire wool. Good enough, does the job - don't let the smell put you off if you've a load of furniture covered with shellac that you want to tidy up.
