Review of Bibigo Chicken and Vegetable Steamed Dumplings

by StevenHelmer

I purchased this product while shopping at Costco a few days ago. Read to find out what I thought of it.

Product Description: Frozen chicken and vegetable dumplings from the Bibigo brand. The dumplings are prepared in the microwave in a special steaming tray. I purchased a box of 36 dumplings for $7.99 while shopping at Costco this past weekend. My wife and I made a tray of the dumplings to go with our dinner last night.

Review

When my wife and I decided to go to Costco this past weekend, it was a last-second decision. In fact, the only reason we ended up going there was because she didn't want to spend the day at home cleaning.

We didn't have much on our shopping list so we spent most of our trip looking for good deals on items we were interested in trying. We saw the Bibigo steamed dumplings were on sale for $7.99 and, since we both like dumplings whenever we've had them at a restaurant, decided to give them a try. We had them last night and I was very impressed with them.

I think the coolest thing about this product had to be the steaming tray the dumplings come in. I've purchased similar products in the past and honestly think that tray made a significant difference.

Many of the frozen dumplings we've purchased in the past just never turned out right in the microwave. They would either be rubbery, dry or overcooked (or a combination of those) and just weren't that enjoyable as a result. With this brand, the dumplings actually came out of the microwave in an edible condition.

The tray also made these easy to make. There was no prep required. We just took the tray out of the box and put it in the microwave. They were ready to eat in a matter of a couple minutes. You can't put a price tag on convenience.

Another thing I liked about these dumplings is they had quite a bit of meat in them. Again, this isn't always the case with other brands and we've had plenty that had almost no meat inside them. The abundance of meat made these more enjoyable and much more filling than I would expect. I was glad we only made the one tray as a result of this.

Final Opinion

They probably weren't as good as the dumplings we get at the restaurant. But, they were still very enjoyable and I was glad we made this purchase. I would recommend them as a result.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for pictures, practicalities and product.
What vegetables are included with the chicken in the Bibigo dumpling package? Sometimes I find that a finer frozen product comes off as home- and restaurant-quality when integrated with other meats and vegetables on the plate.
Is the chicken darker or lighter meat, and how was it prepared (baked, boiled, grilled...)?
