Review of Hamburger Helper Deluxe Cheeseburger Macaroni

by StevenHelmer

I ended up making this for dinner last night. Read to find out my opinion of this product.

Product Description: Boxed dinner that comes with macaroni pasta and a powdered cheese sauce. This is prepared by adding browned hamburger, water, milk and butter and heating everything on the stove. My wife purchased this product at one of our local grocery stores a couple weeks ago when it was on sale for a little over $1 and I made it for dinner last night.

Review

Even though she had the day off from work, my wife is busy making a wedding dress for a family friend and, because of that, I told her I would take care of dinner last night. However, I honestly wasn’t really in the mood to cook either and, because of that, I decided to keep things simple and make a box of Hamburger Helper. We happened to have three different ones to choose from in the pantry and picked, at random, the Deluxe Cheeseburger Macaroni variety.

This product, as is usually the case with the Hamburger Helper brand, was relatively easy to make. All I had to do was brown the hamburger, drain the grease and mix in the other ingredients before bringing it to a simmer on the stove. In all, it took me about 30 minutes to make this and the only thing I dirtied during the preparation was the frying pan (something I consider a bonus because my wife and I both hate washing dishes).

When making this dinner, I noticed the box recommended adding fresh onion and shredded cheese as a way of kicking the dinner up a notch. Since I happened to have both of those readily available, I decided to do just that. And, I have to say, this did improve the overall taste of this dinner by a surprising amount. Normally, when we eat these, we taste mostly hamburger. However, by adding the onion and cheese to the meal, as per the suggestion on the box, it definitely gave it a new, almost fresh, taste. I could still tell it came from a box. But, it was more than acceptable given the easy preparation.

Another thing I was pleasantly surprised about when it came to this product was the quantity. Partly because of the added cheese, this was very filling and, because of that, we had quite a bit left over after dinner. As I’ve said in the past, whenever I can get more than one meal out of something, I consider it a good purchase.

Final Opinion

I ended up making this for dinner primarily because of the convenience. But, overall, it turned out to be a surprisingly tasty dinner. I recommend this Hamburger Helper variety as a result of that but do recommend adding the onions and shredded cheese as the box suggests.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for practical information, pretty pictures and product lines.
It's quite a tribute to the quality of the product that the powdered cheese sauce turned out.

What was the cheese in the sauce and what was the cheese that you all shredded?
