Review of ShurFine Hot Dogs

by StevenHelmer

A review of the hot dogs I purchased at one of our local grocery stores this past weekend.

Product Description: Hot dogs from the ShurFine brand and made out of chicken and pork meat. I purchased a package of these hot dogs at one of our local grocery stores this past weekend for $1.37. I ended up preparing this product on the grill a couple days later as part of a Memorial Day barbecue dinner.

Review

Hot DogsEven though I was primarily making bratwurst and brat patties as part of our Memorial Day barbecue, I also knew my youngest daughter wasn't a huge fan of those choices and, because of that, I decided to pick up a pack of hot dogs to make on the grill as well.

While out shopping at one of our local grocery stores, I looked for a brand that was affordable but, at the same time, looked like it tried to have some sort of quality. This resulted in me purchasing a package of ShurFine hot dogs because, while they weren't the most affordable choice, the less expensive options were also options I wasn't a huge fan of. And, as it turns out, this ended up being a good purchase.

Even though, as I mentioned before, this was primarily a purchase for my youngest daughter (and her older sister, if she chose to have a hot dog instead of a bratwurst), I ended up trying one of these while I was still grilling the rest of the meat, mostly because I was getting hungry and didn't want to wait. When I did, I found I loved the flavor.

One thing I noticed right away was the hot dogs weren't overly salty. This is one of my biggest complaints about hot dogs in general (especially when they are made out of beef) and one of the reasons why I rarely eat them. These, however, didn't have a salty flavor to them and I could taste the meat.

Another thing I liked about these when grilling them is they didn't shrink. This, again, is a problem with some other brands, especially the more affordable ones and I figured that would end up being the case this time around too. Instead, the hot dogs were as large as they were when they came out of the package and fit nicely into the bun.

In fact, I was so impressed with these in general, I ended up having a second one and couldn't help but notice they were being eaten by others at the barbecue too, not just my daughter and her sister. That doesn't usually happen when I make hot dogs.

Final Opinion

As I said before, I primarily purchased this brand because of the lower price. However, after trying the hot dogs, i can honestly say it is a brand I would purchase again.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for practical information, pretty pictures and product lines.
Chicken and port meat mixes do not appeal to me since I avoid ham and pork. But preparation, price, quality and quantity clearly got together here.

What kind of toppings were available?
