Save Money With Tankless Water Heaters

If you are thinking of buying a new water heater, consider tankless water heaters. They are good for the environment and your wallet.

Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless water heaters are also known as instantaneous on demand water heaters.  They only make the amount of hot water needed at a given time.  This way, there is no energy lost just by maintaining a heated tank.  More and more families are converting to tankless water heaters for many smart reasons.  Before you decide to go tankless, learn more about how they work and how to pick the right one for your home!

Tankless vs Conventional Water Heaters

Unlike storage water heaters, tankless water heaters have no storage tank, so they are able to save energy that is used to maintain heat within a storage tank.  Every time hot water is turned on, a signal goes off for the cold water to go through a piping unit that immediately heats up the water either with an electric system or a gas burner. Because there is no tank with a set amount of hot water, you will never have to deal with the fear of running out of hot water; there is a constant supply of hot water.  However, because cold water needs to be heated each time, there might be some limitation to the intensity of the flow of hot water at a given time.  This would be a concern for when you need to multitask, i.e. taking a hot shower, laundry, and doing the dishes.  On average, tankless water heaters are able to supply 2-5 gallons of hot water in one minute.  If you are concerned about the flow of hot water, go with a gas tankless water heater, they have a higher flow rate in comparison to electric tankless water heaters.  Another option is to have two or more tankless water heaters for different home appliances or duties.

Saving Energy, Saving Money

For some households, the amount of energy saved per year can be very significant.  People who use around less than 40 gallons of hot water per day are able to save on average 30% of energy than your conventional water heaters.  To reap the benefits of tankless water heaters means making an investment in purchasing one.  Tankless heaters are more expensive than your conventional heater.  Despite being more expensive than conventional heaters, they have double the lifespan and they save homeowners around 20-30% of their energy bills each year.   To make sure you buy the right kind of heater for your home and your needs consider these factors: how much energy the tankless will save for your household, the size of the heater, the power source, and how much the heater will cost to purchase.

For more information in regards to purchasing and installing a tankless water heater, pay a visit to your local home improvement store or look up a local tankless water heater provider.  Be sure to shop around to compare different brands such as Bosch or Rheem.
