Thanksgiving Books for Kids

by sheilamarie

A Thanksgiving book is a great way to teach children about giving thanks and helping them develop a spirit of gratitude. A Thanksgiving book also makes a fine gift for a teacher.

No matter what time of year it is, giving thanks is always in season. But when October comes around in Canada or November comes along in the U.S., the Thanksgiving holiday brings us a special moment to look at our lives as a family and to reflect on all the things we are grateful for.

All over the world people celebrate the harvest with similar sentiments. Children may want to learn how early North Americans celebrated Thanksgiving or read a book more on giving thanks in general.

Here are some books about Thanksgiving your family may enjoy.

Books Are a Fun Way to Share Thanksgiving with Children

Thanksgiving Books You Can Read Together

Thanksgiving Books Kids Will Love

Whenever a new holiday season comes round again, it's time to pull out children's books to celebrate the holiday with kids. Your library will probably have several Thanksgiving books displayed, but most kids really enjoy having a book or two of their own that they can read over and over again. What's fun about having your own kids' Thanksgiving books at home is that you can pack them away with your Thanksgiving decorations and pull them out again next year as the holiday draws close. Seeing that Thanksgiving book again will be like seeing an old friend, and you and your children can enjoy reading the book again.

Whether you are a teacher or a parent with young children at home, these Thanksgiving books will be a fun way to teach your children about the history and meaning of Thankgiving. Reading a Thanksgiving book together with your children can lead to conversations about gratefulness and sharing.

I'm sure you can think of many values you'd like to share with your kids. Reading books together can be a way to initiate a conversation you may not otherwise have about the kinds of things that are important to you and that you'd like your child to value, too. In a time when our culture has such a wide variety of different experiences and values, sharing these special moments with our children becomes even more important.
