Things to Do in Denver

by MBC

This article will offer special things to do or see each month throughout the year in Denver, Colorado.

The National Western is the largest annual event in Denver and it is growing and, in fact, they are looking to move or remodel to provide a new larger location. This is a great way to start out the New Year in Colorado! More than 600,000 on average attend in a 2 week period in mid-January. Enjoy all the horses, sheep, cattle, chickens, and rabbits that are exhibited by ranchers from miles around.

Rodeo events go on every day, with the nation's top horse and bull riders, calf ropers, you name it, compete for nearly $500,000 in prizes. Between the big events, you can see all kinds of oddball fun: rodeo clowns, Western battle recreations (cover the kids' ears if loud noises scare them), and a sheepdog herding sheep with a monkey in a cowboy suite riding on its back. Tickets to the Professional Bull Riders are the most expensive. The National Western begins with a colorful parade through downtown Denver.

Other Popular Holiday Celebrations in Denver include:

Denver’s March PowWow
Octoberfest in Larimer Square
The Greek Festival
May Day
Ride the Rockies
Easter
Mother’s Day
Cinco De Mayo
The Juneteenth Festival
Cherry Creek Arts Festival
July 4th
Labor Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas
New Year’s

Three Venues in Denver that Always Have Fun Things Going On

The first place I want to mention is Pepsi Center.  It is on Spear Blvd. right down by the Platte River (which has many pretty places to walk and eat).  Pepsi Center is where the Democratic Convention was held when Obama accepted the nomination.  It is also walking distance to Elitches Park where they offer many rides and concerts that are tons of fun. It is also walking distance to Denver Sports Authority Field for you football fans.

Each Year Easter Sunrise Services Are Held at Red Rocks State Park

Easter services are held annually at the spectacular Red Rocks State Park.

For many years Red Rocks State Park has hosted Easter sunrise services as well as other events such as outdoor concerts every summer. The natural setting makes for a memorable experience, and the park also features numerous hiking trails. The amphitheater is located 15 miles west of Denver

Early birds will appreciate the sunrise Easter service at Red Rocks which will be held on Sunday, April 8th, 2012. Red Rocks amphitheater hosts a non-denominational service at 6 a.m. Coffee is provided, and there is no charge for parking. After the service people can visit the the Ship Rock Grille, for Easter brunch. The views at Red Rocks are fabulous and guaranteed to be inspirational.

Of course, if you are in Denver during the summer months they offer a wide variety of outdoor concerts at Red Rocks.

Celebrate St. Patricks Day in Denver

On March 17th, 2015 will be Denver’s 53th Annual St. Paddy’s Day Parade which is bigger in Denver than in Chicago and that’s BIG! This is the perfect start to Spring! So next year come on out and celebrate with us in Downtown Denver.

It is an annual event so start planning now for next years parade in Denver.

Denver March Pow-Wow

Every March we hold a very large pow-wow in Denver. Over 1,000 Native American tribes from all over North America dance in full costume. Each year about 40 to 50 drum groups compete in this three-day event with about 80,000 people attending (not including children under six and adults over 60 who attend for free). There is a large Grand Entry dance at the opening of all three days. You will need to purchase a permit to use a video camera. There are also a large number of vendors selling drums, pipes, jewelry and other treats.

Visit the Denver Acquarium

This is a fantastic place to take friends and family!  Tourists love it too.  It's right downtown near the Platte River.  They have incredible fish and sea life, but they also feature swimming tigers.  I took the photo on the iPhone case there.  College kids love to become mermaids and swim with the fish.  Also the Acquarium has a wonderful restaurant.

A great day or evening trip.

Celebrate the Five Points Jazz Festival

Let’s start May with the Seventh Annual Five Points Jazz Festival.

Join Denver Office of Cultural Affairs and the Five Points community in celebrating the history, culture and music of the Five Points neighborhood during the 7th Annual Five Points Jazz Festival to be held on May 22nd in 2010 from 1-8 PM on Welton Street in Historic Five Points. Pack a picnic and come on down!

Re-visit frequently for regular updates about events to enjoy in Denver.

Enjoy the Taste of Colorado

A Taste of Colorado is a free, four-day outdoor festival held in Downtown Denver’s Civic Center Park on Labor Day weekend. It is produced by and benefits Downtown Denver Events, Inc., a non-profit organization of the Downtown Denver Partnership that produces community and cultural events.

This event typically draws over 500,000 visitors a year. A Taste of Colorado includes over 50 booths operated by local food restaurants. The event also features seven music stages, arts and crafts vendors, kids’ activities and carnival rides, and interactive exhibits.

During December Both the Denver Botanic Gardens and the Denver Zoo Offer Christmas Light Displays

They also offer the Parade of Lights and ceremony called Light the Lights at Denver Civic Center during December.  And they decorate a B52 bomber at the Air Museum called Wings Over the Rockies on Lowry which was home to a former Air Force Base.

This page was written to share my own travels to Vail. I am a long time Colorado resident who loves to share information about my state. I have a series of articles on Colorado.
In this article we will discuss a few of the almost 30 various species of owls; their habitats, vocalizations, nesting, reproduction, conservation and behavior as well as photos.
Visit the Denver Zoo while in Colorado. Each zoo is unique and features different animals. I have found the Denver Zoo to be a wonderful place for family fun.
As the title indicates I have included many photographs taken at the Denver Botanic Gardens including some of the Dale Chihuly designs currently being exhibited.
