Tire Gauge - Pressure Gauge Reviews

by Tested_to_Destruction

A tire gauge is a useful auto tool to have to hand. The five best tire gauges - reviewed and compared.

A tire gauge is a handy automotive tool - for car owners and auto mechanics alike - in the same way that an air compressor or jump starter is. There's a few different varieties available - some are better for sitting in the trunk or home garage for car owners, others better suited to commercial auto workshops.

Used for measuring the air found within pneumatic tires, they work by detecting the level of PSI - pounds per square inch - which in turn allows the user to determine that the tires are safely inflated, so avoiding the possibility of over or under inflation.

The five best tire gauges are featured below. They're all best sellers, great value for money and designed to delver accurate results - plus they're highly rated by previous buyers.

Accutire MS-4021B Standard Digital Tire Gauge

This is the best selling tire gauge and despite it's price tag it looks and feels pretty rugged and built to last. The LCD read-out is big enough to comfortably view and its shape is about right for holding and the angle when reading it.

It delivers the data in 0.05 PSI increments and I'd say it's about as accurate as it gets. It doesn't deflate the tire pressure - an annoyance with some models - and it's a battery powered model. It's cheap, it's effective and it tells you what you need to know - one for the trunk.

Accutire MS-4350B Programmable Digital Tire Gauge

A touch more expensive, this tire gauge allows you to program the settings of the recommended factory advice re specific tires and tire pressure. It's a bit harder to read the screen on this one - you've got to hold it in your palm using your thumb to keep it in place, in order to see the read-out screen but otherwise it's well made and robust.

There's and small flashlight function on-board, which is handy if you're forced to take a reading in the dark and it has both an automatic off ability and a pressure signal alarm. It lacks the non-leak ability of the previous model and for that reason alone - I'd recommend that one over this. Still . if you want one that includes the extra light and bigger screen - it's still a good deal overall.

Accutire MS-4355B Programmable Tire Gauge

This tire gauge device sits at the middle of the five best pack and it's pretty much like the previous model - only more expensive. However - this one's the better quality of the two. It's accurate, programmable and easier to use all round.

When applying it to the tire valve it won't expel air, accidentally or otherwise and the read-out couldn't be any easier to understand. It comes with a good quality storage case, which is good for stowing in the trunk along with other automotive tools and overall it's well worth the extra bucks. Nice manufacture, compact and durable.

This is the best selling dial tire gauge and it will appeal to those that want a basic yet accurate device that doesn't rely on a power source to operate it. It will measure up to 60 PSI and features a simple face that makes taking the pressure an easy task.

This is an alternative to the pencil gauge models, easier to read and due to the size and shape it's more comfortable to work with.
