Valeo Medicine Ball and Good Workouts

by jgran

Are you considering a medicine ball? I use a Valeo for my training and it's worked great for me.

Valeo Medicine Ball

After parting with my trainer and looking to do some medicine ball workouts on my own time, I was in need of a good medicine ball.

I saw the Valeo medicine ball being advertised pretty heavily so I decided to give it a shot.  I'm not a professional trainer, but I've used a number of different medicine balls over the years.  One of my coaches actually made one out of a soccer ball by filling it with sand.

I wouldn't really recommend this because the sand will start to leak out and you never really know the actual weight of the ball at any given moment.

The Valeo medicine ball I purchased was exactly what I was looking for.  The weight distribution is perfect and it gives me just what I needed in my workout.

Some of the exercises I used to do with my trainer required two people, so I made sure to buy a rubberized ball that bounces.  This way you can do all of the exercises without needing a partner.  Just find a concrete or other hard surfaced wall and you're set.

Medicine Ball Workouts

Once you've got your medicine ball you need to develop a good workout routine.  Be careful and consult a professional about the amount of weight and exercises you should do.  I liked reading this description of a high intensity workout program, but even I'm not there yet!

The medicine ball can be a great addition to your exercise routine, but doing these exercises incorrectly is going to be very bad for your body.

Add the Medicine Ball to Your Routine

After you've got the ball and studied up on the exercises, make the commitment to doing the exercises.  How often you do them will depend largely on your individual needs and goals.

I think it's always best to at least do a session or two with a personal trainer.  They can assess exactly what you need and then you can take that information and use it to build up your own consistent workout.  This way you know exactly the type of exercises that are right for you and you can be more confident in the routine.

One or two assessments should be enough for you to get the basics down and be ready to develop your own routine.  At that point it's all up to you to make the commitment and stay motivated enough to put in the work and repetitions to see the results you want.
