Amazon Kindle Tablet

There's news that Amazon will be releasing a new 7" Kindle Tablet in time for Christmas 2011

Amazon Kindle Tablet - Kindle Fire

The new Amazon Tablet is called the Kindle Fire and will have the following features:

- Amazon Android AppStore for apps and games
- 7" Touch Screen
- Kindle App for reading eBooks (of course!)
- Web Browser over Wifi
- Amazon Cloud Player for Music
- Amazon Instant Video Player

Amazon Kindle Tablet Price

The Amazon Kindle Tablet will retail at $199. This is pretty amazing. I think the tablet competitors will be worried.

At this price point Amazon is going for mass market adoption. My Mum just bought a low-end tablet for general web browsing and to use as an eReader - she's an avid reader. If the Amazon Kindle Tablet had been out I'm pretty sure I would have recommended it to her.

The Kindle Tablet is will not have a camera. Presumably to keep costs down and target an audience that doesn't need a camera on their tablet.

Amazon Kindle Tablet Release Date

The Amazon Kindle Tablet release date is November 2011 so it will make a nice Christmas gift.

Kindle Tablet vs Nook Color?

The price point of $199 for the Amazon Kindle Fire is less than that of the Nook Color.

The Nook Color is a well-established product. But, the integration with Amazon services is going to be a very big deal for the Amazon Kindle Tablet. The Kindle Tablet will use the Amazon Cloud Music Player and the Amazon Instant Video Player. I think this will win over quite a few customers.

You will also be able to get an Amazon Prime subscription to go with the Kindle Fire, this will appeal to a lot of people.

But I don't want a Tablet I want an eReader!

I think a lot of people will have this reaction with the new Amazon Kindle Tablet. The eInk technology of the Kindle is very popular. It means you can read it comfortably in sunlight and it's a welcome change after spending time looking at a computer screen.

Don't worry there will be new Kindle eInk tablets plus the existing Kindle 3 tablets.

The Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet isn't  a replacement for the eInk technology, it's for a different audience.

Will the Amazon Kindle Tablet be Successful?

I do think the Amazon Kindle Tablet will be successful. Now that Amazon has proven itself with the Kindle, buying a technology device from Amazon feels safe.

I think the Amazon Kindle Tablet will have mass market appeal for people like my Mum who want to browse the web, listen to music, read eBooks, watch shows and movies in the garden in the summer and use a few apps but don't need a high spec tablet.
