Good point. We do not have any significant equivalent to swamps in Britain, as the fens were drained two hundred years ago. That is why I overlooked this fact.

You mention woodland is not jungle. Here it is important to remember it is also not swamp. walking through a swamp is not easily done, and finding a dry path is not always possible.
