I have put a peppermint plant in the laundry and sprayed the floor with peppermint oil in water too.

I have been using the peppermint oil as Candy suggested. My house is over 100 years old. The peppermint oil has been effective but the idea of magnets with tumble dryer sheets is ideal as I get mice in the Laundry at the back of the house.
