What is the Difference Between the UK and Britain?
Gr8 article Jo.
The worldwide confusion on all of this is personified in various sports governing bodies: FIFA sees separate countries of England, Scotland, Wales, N.I.; the Olympic movement sees GB and NI; the Commonwealth games naturally sees E., S., W., N.I. (just realised putting the capital letters like that makes it NEWS and the points of the compass, spooky) and also IOM, Jersey, Guernsey etc (but NOT Cornwall); most others (including the EU, World Bank, Common Market etc.) recognise UK of GB & NI.
If Scotland (and elsewhere) become independent do we become the Consolidated Countries of E., W., N.I. (and Kernow), or a Confederation (prob not as we are not States), or even the United Kingdoms of said?
Interesting times - but they always have been - at least our countries have a history beyond (before) the late Middle Ages.
We must remember also that much of the political (and religious) upheaval here caused mass migration to the US which, had it not been for the incompetence of George, may have been incorporated as "The United Kingdom of GB, NI and the Confederation of the 13 States".
Thinks: "do the former colonies have history-envy?"
