Rushbearing at Grasmere in the English Lake District
Veronica, Do people who like old ways still use reed-covered floors and thatched roofs anywhere in U.K.? The harp looks very springtime festive with flowers and rushes! How often would rushes centuries ago have to be changed on great house ...

Bramhall History Walk
Veronica, Thank you for sharing Bramhall's history with us! What happened to the strays rounded up in the pinfold? Were their owners given a chance to get them back?

Traditional Cheshire Food
The lemon and almond tart is definitely very good. My lot eat a whole dish of it in one sitting.
I have never actually made potted pigeon. It is more of a traditional dish but asparagus and corn cobs are native vegetables to Cheshire.

The Stockport ( Cheshire ) Anti Irish riots 1852
Great questions.
The Irish couldn't afford to be owners. They were tenants.
Crookley woods is now built over and industrialised and all that remains of it is a duel carriageway called Crookily Way.
The riots are forgotten. I think they ...

Traditional Cheshire Food
Veronica, Very delicious, especially your creation that looks and reads most healthily and prettily with lemon for digestion and rolled oats for fiber! Do you do anything with the bread crusts that don't go into the asparagus and cheese ...

Veronica, Thank you for memorializing the tragedy. Are the Stockport riots still remembered? Is Crookley Woods still in existence? Were the Irish owners or tenants in Rock Row?

The wildlife of an allotment site
I spotted an insect that I have never seen before, a black and yellow longhorn beetle, which I observed in the area near the pond, which I keep wild. I am wondering whether Storm Desmond, which struck day or so ago [and did one of my plots ...

Keep Christ in Christmas
How sad that the priest was shot whilst out in the community where he had worked.
I am particularly interested in the French Christmas meal, Le Reveillon and would like to know more about that. Christmas food is always of interest to me.

Otter Haven or Heaven ? Derbyshire

Bollington, Cheshire Well Dressings July 2016
Aren't they wonderful?! The Great Fire of London and The Battle of Hastings were my favourites although they were all spectacular. To think they are made of flower petals, seeds, and natural resources is wonderful.
They use a special clay and ...

Keep Christ in Christmas
There is a special French dinner, Revelion (not certain of spelling), at some large restaurants.
The Nativity set that included the entire town of Bethlehem was in a rectory. The priest who owned it has since died, he was shot while riding ...

Otter Haven or Heaven ? Derbyshire
Veronica, Thank you for the lovely tour of the animals and grounds. Where are the rehomed otters now? Is it down to beavers and owls or is there a successor to the otters?

Convict Lake, California Camping
Frank, yes, this area is in the rain shadow. Many peaks are nearly 10,000 ft and one ski resort can get huge amounts of snow some years. Los Angeles County took so much water since 1920 from the area that one lake became a dry salt pan. For the ...
