As a teenager I worked in a restaurant. We were open for breakfast and served vast quantities of toast every day. It was made with a gorgeous Dualit toaster.
As a student I lived in various shared houses with various toasters. They never came up to the standard of the Dualit toaster I remembered.
When we had our first home we couldn't afford a Dualit toaster so we settled for a cheap toaster. It was always disappointing to use.
I always remembered the chunky, shiny and functional Dualit toaster from my restaurant days. Eventually I could afford one. It's now been making my toast for about 10 years.
Do you like the Dualit Toaster?
Hi, Sam. I just plan to replace my old and broken toaster and your recommendation is useful for me. I have made a decision to choose one of them.
Paula, I didn't have a toaster as a child either, we made toast under the grill (broiler) in the oven. I remember a lot of burnt toast!
And yes this toaster manages to look at home in a retro kitchen or a modern one like mine.
They sure are good looking. It's funny, but I never used a toaster like this when I was growing up, because we always had a toaster over. I loved going to my grandmother's house to use her pop up toaster. Of course, this brand is much, much nicer than what she had. It would look really good in a retro kitchen.
Thanks Sam. Yes, I've started replacing household items with really good quality ones when they wear out. They last longer and you get to use nice stuff every day. Better for the environment too, than all the cheap stuff that gets discarded.
You make a good point when saying "I wonder how many cheap toasters I would have worn out in ten years? And my Dualit toaster is still going strong" That is my experience with most electric appliances also, that cheap can be more important in the long run. Investing in a well made toaster like the Dualit is worth the money as it simply last longer and you get more for your money in the end as when you would just buy a 'cheap and cheerful' toaster that has to be replaced each year.
