For the Love of Cyprus - Khloe Kamalis talks about her book

by BardofEly

Khloe Kamalis is an author, a singer-songwriter and musician but here she talks about her new book For The Love of Cyprus.

Let me introduce you to Khloe Kamalis
Please introduce yourself to my readers.
First off I want to thank you Bard for this kind interview. I'm a first generation Greek-Cypriot born in the U.S.A and southern by the grace of God. I split my time between writing books, composing music with lyrics and taking care of my 5 cats. I've played guitar since I was 8 years old.
You can usually find me sipping on sweet tea or hot chocolate and burning up the keypad writing stories,or chatting with friends and family by phone or laptop. At other times I'm composing and playing my guitar.
I kind of live by these words : "When I look out on the starry night, I think there must be thousands of girls sitting at home alone like me, dreaming of becoming successful but I'm not going to worry about them because I'm dreaming the hardest"
Now don't think those words mean money and materialistic things to me but it means being successful in my music and book distribution by bringing what I have to say to the public. Ha ha Give me some sweet tea, good music, a laptop and my guitar and I'll write you a story. xoxo

What can you say about your writings?

I've been writing since I learned how. Before that we had an old voice recorder that my mom used to record my songs, poems and stories. I guess the first song I wrote was at the age of 5 about being a kid. My first book was written at the age of 7 and it was called A Child's Dream. It was 6 chapters long. I've been writing every since. I've written stories, lyrics and now a book for which I've gathered ideas all of my life.
My premiere book is about the island of Cyprus and is dedicated to my mom and dad and those who went through the invasion of 1974 by the Turkish army which has never really been resolved. That invasion resulted in almost half the island being taken from anyone who was not of Turkish heritage. For The Love Of Cyprus is a story of love, war and honor. It is set against the elegant backdrop of a large plantation on the turbulent island of Cyprus, this story tells of a young woman's coming of age, as she comes to grips with love and sadness in every sense of the term. November 1973. Spurred by her beloved father's dying wish, Zoe Polemos travels to his homeland of Cyprus to bury him but soon finds herself entangled in a web of love, lies, and murder involving her father's will and her new love Michael’s family. It becomes increasingly difficult to negotiate the minefield of true allegiance as those she trusts suddenly appear to be enemies.
Zoe seeks to find the answers to these questions. Is the enigmatic Michael truly her greatest ally or her greatest foe? Will scandalous family secrets and the invasion of the Turkish army onto the island put a halt to everything and destroy them? Is death always the winner?

Please tell us about your music and song-writing as well.

I've been playing guitar since I was 8 years old. Of course I have been writing song lyrics and humming the music way before then. During the MP3.com years I had Cd's posted on that site until it decided to go in another direction and only supports those who are signed with a record label. Since then I have kept on performing for others at various venues. My two favorite genres are Country and Rock.

More about Khloe Kamalis

What are your main influences and sources of inspiration?

Sinners and Saints... Friends and Family.. my own life experiences, the trials and tribulations of my own and that of others. When I start to get writers block, I'm influenced by something a very dear friend said to me once, He said Khloe, "My Dad always use to tell me, that If you're not thinking be creative, and if you're not being creative think".
I cherish that bit of knowledge my friend shared with me... because it has taught me as an adult to take a step back, look at the big picture and think outside the box of my own creativity when I have lost inspiration to think... "laughs"

Your current plans and projects?

I've recently started writing a trilogy which some may call Young Adult literature but I happen to think it will be enjoyed by those of all ages. I'm not going to say to much about it at the moment but look for it coming at the end of summer.

This summer I have been honored to be recorded by some dear friends who own a recording studio in Florida and for that I am so thankful. So sometime at the end of May I'm a traveling girl.

Hi Mira! Thanks for posting and your interest! It looks like she has taken all her songs down from the Internet but I will ask her.
