Gracie The Undercover Beagle Investigates The Egg Thief Mystery

Introducing Gracie The Undercover Beagle and her Sidekick Boston Blackie: The Egg Thief, first in a series billed as a Little Book for Little Readers by author Douglas Quinn.

Gracie is the undercover beagle whose job it is to investigate crimes and solve mysteries. Yes, a dog is the crime-solving heroine in this children's book.

Of course, Gracie does not work alone in figuring out this whodunit mystery. Gracie has the aid of her sidekick Boston Blackie, the cat. Blackie keeps the dog's nose to the grindstone and paws on track. Thus, the mystery of the missing eggs from the hen-house will soon be solved.

The detective duo begin questioning Red the Rooster and myriad other barnyard and animal friends to crack this crime. For heaven’s sake, they even enlist the aid of the Oracle of the Forest to help solve the problem.

With eggs from the chicken coop having been stolen, Gracie has no eggs for her breakfast, so she wants the mystery solved pronto! Believe me, it does not take Gracie long to sniff out the culprit and the innocent ones help her set a trap to nab the critter.

Upon catching the thief, justice shall be served, and a valuable lesson shall be learned by all, including the reader. And Gracie can, once again, stay snuggled up in bed under the covers while Boston Blackie rustles up some fresh eggs from the hen-house for breakfast!

Who is The Egg Thief?

No spoilers here – Like me, you will have to read the book to discover the egg thief's identity! However, I will introduce you to the characters of the story and you can take a guess who you think will be found guilty of egg thievery. Of course, it is safe for you to assume that neither Gracie nor Boston Blackie are stealing the eggs. Our dynamic duo are as honest (and as clever) as a dog and a cat can possibly be.

As we all do, I love my animals, and they give us so many stories (or at least ideas for stories). So whether they are still with us or passed on, why not honor them with a good yarn that children (and adults) can enjoy.
Books are a perfect way for parents and children to bond and interact with each other (as opposed to plunking them down in front of a TV). In fact, I’m an advocate of reading to the child while they are still in the womb.
I don’t write down to children. So the addition of definitions in the back of the book is to help build vocabulary for words of which they are probably unfamiliar.
