Halloween Books for Toddlers

by SusanM

Fun Halloween books to share with your toddler to celebrate the spooky season with them.

Toddlers are just becoming aware of the fun of Halloween. But they're too small for many of the classic Halloween activities. This means you need to be creative to think of ways to make Halloween fun for your toddler.

A Halloween story is a wonderful activity to share with your toddler at Halloween. The book needs to be age appropriate for your toddler. But when it is it's a lovely way to bond with your child. It's a fun way to introduce Halloween to them too.

Many Halloween books you can buy are made for children who are at least 3 or 4 years old. They're not always good for your toddler. They probably won't stand up to the rough treatment toddlers can give books. They can be too long for them too so they won't be as much fun for them.

This means it's important to pick a book that was made with toddlers in mind. These books will stand up to rough treatment. They'll also be fun for your toddler to listen to as part of their Halloween story time.

Duck & Goose Halloween

The Duck & Goose stories are a very popular choice for toddlers. In this story Duck & Goose want a pumpkin - so the pumpkin hunt starts. This makes it an excellent choice for a Halloween story if you want something cute that isn't scary at all.

The illustrations in this book are adorable. In great fall colors too. The story is sweet and funny for toddlers. It's also the right length for a toddler's shorter attention span. These all make it a good choice for your toddler.

This book is also a Board Book. This means it's a lot stronger than a normal picture book. So it will take the rough treatment toddlers hand out to books and toys.

Five Little Pumpkins

This toddler story is based on the fun '5 Little Pumpkins' song and finger play. You might already know this children's song:

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said, "Oh, my it's getting late!"
The second one said, "There are witches in the air."
The third one said, "But we don't care."................

Because it's a popular finger play it means this story will already be loved by many toddlers who will want to see the great pictures that go with this song.

This one is also a Board Book so it will take the usual 'toddler treatment' very well.

Halloween Counting Book

"One, Two, Boo......" is another Board Book that has a lot for toddlers. The pictures are very cute and the story is in a classic Halloween style. But it's also a lift-the-flap book. Toddler's love lift-the-flap books because they're like a game of hide and seek for them. So this is a book that they can do something with not just sit and listen to.

This is also a fun early counting book. Your toddler can count their way through a spooky old Halloween house.

Many parents don't know about this fun little book. So it's also a good choice for a Halloween gift for a toddler instead of candy or chocolate.

Where's the Pumpkin

This toddler book is very popular. The story is very similar to the Duck & Goose book so you would only want to buy one of these two books.

Both books are Board Books so great for the rough play of toddlers. I do like the illustrations and cuteness of the Duck & Goose book more. But 'Where is Baby's Pumpkin?' is a lift-the-flap book. This makes it more like a toy for toddlers than the Duck & Goose Halloween book. So for this reason it's a very good choice.

'Where is Baby's Pumpkin?'  can also be read to older babies and very young toddlers. This is probably why this book is so popular with both parents and toddlers.

A New Halloween Classic

Few people know about this great little lift-the-flap Halloween book for toddlers. Toddlers think 'Who Said Boo?' is hilarious so it gets them giggling. So it's a fun read to share together for Halloween.

This is also a good Halloween book for toddlers because the spooky characters aren't scary for little ones. Being another Board Book it will also last for many reads. This is good because this book is one that toddlers seem to ask for again and again. So be prepared to read it a lot.

Touch & Feel Halloween

You've probably guessed by now that this is also a Board Book. (I made sure all the books I've featured have been board books because they do last better with toddlers than other types of books.) This book is different though because it's a Touch & Feel book.

Touch & Feel books are a good pick for toddlers because they give your toddler something different to do than just lift flaps. Your child can feel different textures which adds a whole new element to reading. Toddlers find it fascinating and love to run their fingers over the different textures.

Halloween Touch & Feel books for toddlers are rare - and I haven't had a chance to see this one myself. But it's a Disney Baby Einstein book so it should be good.

Oh my, I remember many of these from when my girls were little. What fun books. Reading is such a great time spent with youngsters. I love reading to kids, we should all do it more.
