If you are shopping for a cordless vac, the first and foremost thing I would do is strongly consider the model right above this section. You get a lot for your money with the Black & Decker ultra vac, and it has reviewed very well with Amazon shoppers.
Alternatively, you could consider waiting for seasonal sales -- like Black Friday at the big box stores. But if you need a cordless handheld vacuum right now, then waiting simply will not do.
Offline, you have some options. Be aware though, that shopping for used vacuums offline is like adopting someone else's heap of dusty junk.
With that said, you may fair fine at a secondhand shop.
Indeed, I am sure The Goodwill Store near me sometimes sells new, in the box, cordless vacuums. If yours does not, it is worth your time to check their shelves for a donated used hand vac in decent condition.
Now, if you can play the part of a true deal hound, try your neighborhood yard sales on nice days. Go to enough of them, and I am certain you will find a cordless vacuum in decent condition.
Finally, online at eBay, you can find any number of handheld cordless vacuums -- most at "Buy It Now" pricing.
Whichever way you decide to go, your vacuum will probably suck -- and that is a good thing!
That's my time! Good night!

Yes, they have come a long way. Thanks for the comments, Katie!
These are amazing, I need one for my car... I like keeping it clean on an ongoing basis. The closest car wash near me shut down, bummer and now I have to drive a bit out of my way so I def need a great handheld vacuum. I have a dyson in my home and LOVE it! So I lean toward the Dyson. Hand held vacuums sure have come a long way.
