Marvel Comics

by SeanMac

The Marvel superheroes are to be found in the comics of the Marvel Universe. Spider-Man and company do battle with popular Super-Villains for our enjoyment.

Superheroes like Captain America and Spiderman are the best known of the Marvel Comic book characters. They are not alone in fighting crime as there are hundreds of good Marvel characters assisting them. You might be happier with the villains and you will be glad to know that they outnumber the Superheroes by a factor of 4 to 1. Marvel Comics have literally thousands of comic characters to choose from and this is just a selection of the author’s choice. You, as a Marvel Comic fan, will likely have different views on which superheroes or villains are. The amazing fact is that so many of them have been around for longer than most of us and some of them pre date WWII.

Best Marvel Comic Superheroes

With Supervillains

Marvel Comics Superhero Captain AmericaThe Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Wolverine and Spider-Man are the most well known Marvel Superheroes. Captain America (who is Steve Rogers in normal human mode) epitomized the struggle during the Second World War and was at his most popular during the 1940’s and 1950’s despite his new movies recently. His costume and outfit is basically that of the US flag. Captain America is shown on the left and such is his popularity that he has spawned many toys from the Hasbro range, including chess sets, as well as Lego style figures from Megabloks. ‘The First Avenger’ movie opened in 2011 and the follow up movie called ‘The Avengers’ was released in 2012 and also features the Hulk. The Super-Villains these heroes faced included Red Skull, Green Goblin, Doctor Faustus, Doctor Octopus, Onslaught, Thunderbolt, HYDRA and the Sandman and they are always ultimately defeated, so this is perhaps why we like them too.

Marvel’s Fantastic Four

Superhero Team

Marvel Comics Superhero The ThingThe Fantastic Four all became Superheroes when they were exposed to cosmic rays. Their leader, and founder of the group, was the Thing (shown opposite). The other three are the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and Mister Fantastic who married Sue Storm (Invisible Woman). Her younger sibling is Johnny Storm who is the Human Torch. The Fantastic Four were Marvel’s answer to their rivals DC Comics gang of Superheroes known as the ‘The Justice League of America’.

The Superhero known as The Thing (who is the astronaut Benjamin Jacob Grimm) was the originator of the Fantastic Four, who made their comic book debut more than 50 years ago.

Marvel Comics Elektra

Lady Super-Hero

Marvel Comics Superhero Woman ElektraSome of the newer Superheroes of Marvel Comics such as Silver Surfer, Daredevil, and Wolverine of the X-Men are very exciting characters but one overshadows them all. My favorite Marvel fictional character is called Elektra Natchios but she is simply better known as Elektra. As a female ninja assassin she is a ‘real’ baddie and her relationship prospects with Daredevil suffered as a result. Elektra is a cold-blooded character but she is the best heroine in the Marvel Universe and maybe in the dual universes, when DC superheroes are included. She once fought DC’s own Catwoman and knocked her for six. Elektra made her debut over 30 years ago but still makes great reading for comic book fans.

It makes sense that there are so many more supervillains as there are heroes, when you think about it. Just like in the real world...

The Supervillains just keep coming and coming. They have to create new one as some get imprisoned or go on vacation. Our Superheroes never get a rest, though;-) Thank you Tolovaj for your comment.

I didn't know there are four times as many villains as superheroes. I heard Marvel Comics are trying to get a piece of video games market too.
