Cheese Slicers and Graters are Versatile Kitchen Tools

by Digby_Adams

These handy gadgets will help you quickly and easily add cheese to your meals. You'll love the new cheese flavors and textures that add dimension to your dishes.

Cheese is one of the ways that I love to incorporate new flavors into the food that I serve my friends and families. It's an easy to way entertain and to always be ready when people stop by for a visit.

But I've also found that I've got to be ready to make sure that the cheese I serve is easy for people to eat and enjoy. Cheese slicers and graters have become important kitchen gadgets at these times. Whether it's older people with arthritis who have trouble cutting through cheese or children who could cut themselves, the right cheese cutting and serving tools make life easier and safer.

Cheese Slicers

You need different slicers for hard and soft cheese
Fox Run Marble Cheese Slicer

Norpro Cheese Slicer
$19.12  $13.95
Norpro Stainless Steel Mozzarella Slicer
Only $28.69

Cutting the cheese ahead of time for your guests, just dries it out faster. So I have gotten into the habit of using a slicer like the one you see above. It has a marble base which helps to keep the cheese cool. Guests can then easily slice their own cheese and decide how big a slice they want. It also looks really elegant on your buffet.

There are many very hard cheeses like Parmesan Reggiano that don't fit in the marble slicer or just don't slice well. Just display the cheese and let your guests use a cheese slicer to run along the top.

Mozzarella and tomatoes are fantastic in salads. But have you ever tried to cut a lot of both fast lots of people? Well this mozzarella slice fits the shape and consistency of a mozzarella ball. You'll love the way your crisp salad greens are complimented by the soft mozzarella.

Grated cheese over pasta is probably my favorite way to use Parmasean Reggiano cheese and there is nothing like the real thing freshly ground!

I usually grate the cheese a head of time and put it in a bowl for the guests to put on their own pasta. But my husband likes to play chef and he takes the cheese and a hand grater and offers to personally grate the cheese over everyone's plate. This is okay at a restaurant where one person in the party gets pasta or they don't want a lot of cheese. At a family dinner where 8 people are have cheese on their pasta in can take a bit too long.

I love Oxo Good Grips Box Grater with the glass box at the bottom. It has a nonstick surface so it won't slip. And the cheese or chocolate goes right in the box. There's even a lid so you can easily store the leftover cheese in the box container. If you have trouble holding cheese and the grating motion, then you'll love the Zyliss Restaurant Cheese Grater.
