Dinosaur Toys - Melissa and Doug

I'm Mom to two young boys who love dinosaurs. I'm often asked to recommend a good dinosaur toy for little kids. And for the preschool and kindergarten age group, the answer is often a Melissa & Doug toy. 

We have quite a few Melissa & Doug dinosaur toys and puzzles and they're great quality, safe and made with education and development in mind. 

In this article we'll look at dinosaur toys from Melissa & Doug starting from the youngest (never too young for dinosaurs) and working our way up. 

This dinosaur grasping toy is suitable for babies from 6 months - when they are able to hold a toys and start investigating it. This dinosaur is made from hardwood and can be moved into lots of different positions by little hands. 

6 months is definitely not too young to introduce dinosaurs. Dinosaur was one of my older son's first words at just over a year. (Well it sounded more like 'down' but we knew what he meant.)

This is a great gift for little brothers or sisters of dinosaur fans who want to join in the fun. 

These Melissa & Doug Dinosaur magnets are recommeded from age 2+. Thank-you Melissa and Doug for providing interesting dinosaur toys for toddlers. So many of the toys say from 3+. 

We have a set of these are they really are gorgeous. They're well made using gorgeous colors that catch kids attention, and they are realistic dinosaurs. (Scientists don't really know what color dinosaurs were, so we can use some imagination!)

We have a magnetic wall where the kids play with these, and also a metal cabinet. The kids use them for identifying dinosaurs, making dinosaur scenes, counting and more. We leave them on display but the magnets do come with a nice wooden storage box which makes them an impressive looking gift (and very good value.)

Melissa & Doug make several good dinosaur puzzles, but this one is our favorite. It's big and bright and packed with detail. 

It's actually 4 feet long! So as toddlers and preschoolers my kids had to actually get up and move along the puzzle to complete it. We've done this puzzle many, many times and it's still in good condition and will probably get handed to another child when my kids are too big for it. 

My older son got this Melissa & Doug Dinosaur Stamp Set for his fourth birthday. It's a lovely set with detailed dinosaur stamps and the all important volcano! My son loves to create scenes that involve dinosaurs fleeing from an erupting volcano!

I love the wooden storage box. So many toys like this come in plastic packaging which soon gets destroyed. Our stamps go back in the box after each use. 

The set says from age 4, but there's no keeping my three year old away from them when his brother gets them out. Supervision is required though! The ink is washable but still ...
