How to Play the Lego Ninjago Spinjitzu Spinner Game

by TerriRexson

Do you want to know how to play the Lego Ninjago Spinjitzu game with spinners and cards. Find the instructions, rules and tutorial videos here.

The Lego Ninjago Spinjitzu Game is part of the popular Lego Ninjago theme.

Spinjitzu is a fun game for kids from around age 6-14. It's not too tricky, but there are some rules to learn and spinning techniques to master.

One this page we'll show you how to become a Spinjitzu expert. I've included some Lego tutorial videos to show you how to learn the rules of the Ninjago game and the technique you'll need to become a Master of Spinjitzu.

What is Spinjitzu?

Lego Ninjago Spinjitzu is a game played with minifigures that stand on plastic spinners. It's a turn-based battle game where the object is to know your opponent's minifigures off his spinner.

The minifigures hold weapons. When a minifigure gets knocked off a spinner they lose a weapon. A player who loses all three weapons loses the game.

Spinjitzu also uses game cards that can give power ups such as allowing shield Lego blocks to be added or allowing a second weapon to be held at the same time.

What do you need to play Spinjitzu?

The Ninjago Starter Set has everything you need for a 2-player game of Spinjitzu:

Each player needs:

  • A minifigure plus their character card
  • 3 weapons including one golden weapon
  • A spinner
  • Any Lego bricks, crowns, extra attachments that came with the spinner
  • 4 game cards

You also need a battle arena. The starter set comes with a simple buildable battle arena. Without an arena the spinners might shoot off in opposite directions without much battling taking place.

A Ninjago storage case is optional, but I do recommend you find some kind of storage for your Spinjitzu game pieces. There are lots of small pieces needed to play the game and it's really annoying if you lose any of them.

The Ninjago Battle case is a storage case with a Ninjago arena built-in.

How to Spin a Ninjago Spinner

OK, now you need to learn how to spin the spinner. There is a knack to it and it might take a bit of practice to get it right. Watch the technique in the video below and then practice with your spinner. You'll probably want to spend a bit of time getting the hang of this before you have a battle.

The video shows the older style spinners with the skeleton army as enemies, but the basic technique is the same for the new Rise of the Snakes theme spinners.

The basic spinning technique

Aiming your Spinner

At first your spinner might just spin on the spot (mine did!) To win a battle you usually have to make the spinner move towards your opponent.

To do this you're going to need to angle your spinner away from the horizontal. Watch the Spinning Styles video for a demonstration.

You'll need to practice your aim to get good. Try the Card Targets training exercise in the video below on the right.

You can also get the Ninjago Training set to practice your aim.

When you hit the snake tail with a spinner, the snake drops a weapon from the left hand panel.

A fun model to build and you get to practice your spinner speed and accuracy.

Lego Ninjago Spinjitzu: Battle Cards

Once you've mastered spinning your spinner in the direction you want it to go and with the right amount of force, the main other part of the game to master is the battle cards.

You can build up a deck of battle cards to use in games. You can only use them if your character has the required power level.

Watch the video to learn the basics or working with battle cards.
