Lego is a very successful toy for good reason. Kids play with it, it's good quality and lasts, kids like it from preschool through to tween years and many keep their interest into their teen and adult years. And yes, some of those kids are girls.
Lego is a great toy for improving fine motor skills. It improves spatial awareness and planning skills. And Lego is great for the imagination, kids have lots of fun making up stories for Lego figures.
Let's get this clear: girls can play with any Lego they like. It is not a boys toy. OK? Good.
But often girls do feel that Lego is aimed at boys, it's often in the boys section at toy shops and themes that are preferred by boys dominate the ranges.
Lego have attempted to address this with the Lego Friends range specifically for girls. We'll look at that range briefly here, but we'll also look at a range of other Lego sets that feature female characters and which will be of interest to girls.

The Lego Friends range has got a mixed reaction from adults, many of whom would rather see girls playing with regular Lego.
But the Lego Friends range has been a huge success with girls themselves. I think a lot of girls who thought Lego was a boys toy have been introduced to Lego.

The Lego Superheroes range has an awesome collection of female characters. Yep, they're baddies!
We love Catwoman on her very cool purple motorcycle. She's going to cause Batman some trouble.
In the Lego superheroes range you'll also find Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. They are Lego ladies you don't want to mess with!

Lego Hero Factory is another Lego range that seems to be directed mostly a boys. But girls can be heroes too!
Natalie Breez is a female character in the Lego Hero Factory universe and she's available in her own set Lego 7165.
Breez is a diplomat. But when she needs them she has energized dual boomerangs and a harpoon for climbing.

Harry Potter has proved very popular with boys and girls. Hermione Granger is a central character and saves the day on many occasions.
Girls who are fans of the Harry Potter books and movies will enjoy building the Lego Hogwarts Castle. This is one of the larger sets in the range and include 9 minifigures including a Lego Hermione Grainger.

Girls will love creating pictures with the Lego Mosaics set. The set comes with 286 pieces and includes designs to build.
But a really cool features is the 16 x 16 transparent baseplate. You can put this over an image that you like and then reproduce it my placing matching single Lego blocks over the colors that appear in the picture. Very neat.

Nya is Kai's sister in Lego Ninjago. She's not formally trained like the boys, but she certainly can fight. And she's clever too. She gets the boys out of lots of tricky situations.
