Space Christmas Ornaments

by CruiseReady

You probably already have stars on your holiday tree, so why not a planet? Or perhaps a rocket ship, or other space themed ornament would honor those who've gone to space.

If there's someone in your family who is fascinated with the solar system, space travel, or NASA, then honor their special interest by hanging a space themed ornament on your holiday tree.

Whether it's a child or an adult who is space crazy, it's easy to select just the right bauble for your tree that will bring a smile to their face as they choose just the right limb on which to showcase their own decoration.

Or, perhaps you'd like to find that one very special artistic piece to add to your collection this year. How about a rendering of the planet Saturn, made by a professional artist who works in glass? You probably already have stars on your tree, so why not a planet?

From Santa riding a retro rocket, to photo ornaments of the launch of Space Shuttle Columbia, there's a nice variety of space themed Christmas ornaments to choose from.

Celebrating Twenty Five Years in Space

for the Hubble Telescope

It's hard to believe, but 2015 marks the 25th year since the launch of NASA's Hubble Space Telescope.  It's been sending images back to earth ever since.  Some of these incredible images, like the one above, sent back to earth from 20,000 light years away are just absolutely stunning.

The folks at the space center named it "Celestial Fireworks,"  and it's been designated Hubble's Official 25th Anniversary Image.  It shows a cluster of stars in the constellation Carina.

Celebrate with Hubble Images This Holiday Season

Ornaments for Your Tree

How appropriate to celebrate the holidays by adorning your own tree with stunning images of stars in deep space.

After all, it was a star that led the wise men to Bethlehem, wasn't it?  Today, we see stars our ancestors never even imagined existed, courtesy of modern technology.

Details from some of Hubble's most famous images, are among the many space related hanging Christmas ornaments available at Zazzle.  The two examples at right show actual NASA images of the Orion and Cassiopeia Galaxies.

You'll find pewter, ceramic, and acrylic ones, along with silver and gold plated,  in a variety of styles and shapes.

Star Shaped Ornament

If yours is one of those families that has a tradition of adding one special new ornament each year, this work of art (shown above) could be the one for this year.  It's something your children and grand children will be happy to display on their trees in the future, proudly explaining to admirers that it's a family heirloom.

Here's a beautiful blown glass ornament of the planet Saturn.  Mouth blown by an old world glass artist, then hand painted and glittered, this one is a real beauty.

This beauty  is from Old World Christmas, which still uses traditional techniques dating back to the 1800's. .

Annual Ornaments Family Tradition

Do You Have One?

Regardless of whether they may need to refresh their assortment, or replace broken items from year to year, some families also select a single, special addition to their tree each year.  Often that new item is either dated, or simply something that will be unique within their overall collection.

Those special annual purchases are often selected with the idea in mind that they will be a part of a special family collection for generations to come.

Retro Space Ships, Rockets, and Santas

Ornaments to Delight Youngsters

Retrograde!  Space ornaments in a fun retro style will add some funky fun to your holiday tree.

Pick a single very special ornament or a group of two or more, as your fancy strikes.  They will delight the youngsters in your home, and please the kid in you.

Who knows?  Santa might just retire his sleigh and reindeer, and start delivering treats for tots in a space ship or riding on a rocket one day. Maybe he'll even convince NASA to bring a shuttle out of retirement for his exclusive annual use.

Here's a trio of cute  little ornaments depicting that fanciful thought.

Building a Child's Christmas Decoration Collection Year by Year

A Wonderful Holiday Tradition for Any Family

Another fun tradition is to add one item for each child in the family to your decoration collection every season.

Then, as each child reaches young adulthood and leaves the nest, they will have the beginnings of their own personal ornament collection to take with them.  Hopefully, they'll continue some version of this same tradition with their own family some day.

These special Christmas ornaments might be chosen to reflect the special interests of each child.  For  instance, one child may find it difficult to think about anything but soccer, another may be fascinated with space or astronomy.  You can find ornaments (and other things)  that reflect just about any interest you can think of at Zazzle..

Here are two examples of cute things to hang on the tree in a home with children (or grand children) who are space crazy.   Each can be personalized - one with the child's picture, and the other with his or her name.

A Tribute to NASA's Shuttle Program

for Your Holiday Tree

The shuttle age was an exciting time for NASA, and for all of America, as well.  Actually, it was an exciting time all over the world, as many other countries sent their own representatives to space aboard a Space Shuttle launched from Cape Canaveral's Kennedy Space Center.

From the very first launch on April 12, 198, to the final mission of Space Shuttle Atlantis in 2011, we watched in awe as NASA sent brave astronauts aloft..  We celebrated each successful launch, breathed a sigh of relief as we welcomed the space travelers home, and mourned twice when shuttles and crews were lost forever.

Pay tribute to the phenomenal manned space flight program that took so many aloft into the final frontier, with a Space Shuttle ornament for your holiday tree.

CruiseReady, Thank you! The space-themed Christmas ornaments are charming and possibly prescient since it's possible that this century may see us beginning to live on Mars and traveling around Saturn in a space station.

They sure would! (And maybe even go a little way towards inspiring a future astronomer or astronaut)

These can make a child happy, and that is a plus. They would especially be nice on a child's Christmas tree,
