The Mines of Moria - Lego 9473 - With Cave Troll

by TerriRexson

Lego 9473 The Mines of Moria is one of the larger sets in the Lego Lord of the Rings range for 2012. It's an important one for LOTR minifigures too.

In The Fellowship of the Ring, the 9 members of the Fellowship are on their way to Mordor. When their way becomes impassable they decide they must enter the Mines of Moria.

The Mines of Moria used to be inhabited by dwarves but has since become overrun by goblins and other foul creatures. The underground tunnels are full of skeletons.

Lego 9473 Mines of Moria is one of the larger sets in the new Summer 2012 Lego Lord of the Rings range.

This set allows you to collect 4 out of the 9 Fellowship of the Ring characters. And the huge Cave Troll is one of the main attractions of this set.

Mines of Moria

The scene for Lego 9473 is the battle at Balin's tomb where the fellowship run into trouble with goblins and a huge Cave Troll. It all starts when Pippin knocks a skeleton into a well and makes a loud noise.

In this scene all of the nine members of the fellowship are present, but they are not all included in Lego 9473. You do get a lot of LOTR minifigures in this set though so you'll be well on your way to a fellowship.

Lego Mines of Moria Contents

Lego Mines of Moria features the Chamber of Records (or Chamber of Mazarbul.) The main part of the model is building the doors and walls of the chamber.

Inside the chamber is Balin's tomb. Balin was an important dwarf who appears in The Hobbit (so we might get to see him alive in Lego in future.) Gimli first learns that he is definitely dead when he sees the tomb.

The other important element in this scene is the well where Pippin drops a skeleton and attracts unwanted attention.

Which Minifigures are in Lego The Mines of Moria?

The Mines of Moria has a great collection of minifigures. From the fellowship you get:

  • Boromir
  • Peregrine 'Pippin' Took (Hobbit) - His actions here attract the goblins
  • Gimli (The Dwarf) - Quite right that a dwarf should be included in this dwarvish location
  • Legolas (Elf)

There are two Moria orcs (goblns) to fight. (There are a lot more in the scene, so you'll have to use your imagination.)

You also get an awesome Cave Troll. The Cave Troll is a lot bigger than the other characters.

Then there are two skeletons as scenery.

Mines of Moria in the Movie

In the Fellowship of the Ring movie, the Mines of Moria scene at Balin's Tomb takes place just over half way through the movie.

I've been re-watching the movies to get ready for the new LOTR Lego sets. I think you get a lot more from them when the story is fresh in your mind.
