Snakes makes a fun party theme for kids. My son had a safari themed birthday party when he turned 5 and snakes were one of the main animals he wanted to feature.

I made snake-themed food and included snake-themed party favors in the guests' party bags.

Make Snakeskin Headbands

It's fun to give kids something to wear when they arrive at a party. It helps get them into the theme, and kids love to dress up.

You can easily make snakeskin headbands for the kids from snakeskin fabric.

If you have a sewing machine you can finish the headbands off nicely. If not just use pinking shears to create a zig-zag cut that won't fray so quickly. The kids will be quite happy!

Tie a headband around each child's head as they arrive at the party. It serves as a party hat and they can take it home as a party favor afterwards.

Gummy snakes are a classic snake-themed candy treat to pop in a party bag.

Snake stickers make a fun party favor. Zazzle have lots of snake stickers to choose from including cartoon style snakes and realistic looking snakes. Some are even customizable so you could add the birthday child's name or a thank-you message.

Balloon Snakes

Yes, we all know the old joke - you blow up a modeling balloon and say, look a snake! But actually you can make really cool snakes with modeling balloons.

Watch the video to learn how. I made these snakes for the kids at my sons party and it worked brilliantly (it was the first time I had tried balloon modeling though I did practice before the party.)

I let each child choose two colors of balloon for their snake and then make the snakes. I did this at the end of the party so it was okay for the kids to go a bit wild!
